Q. Why are 350’s & 500’s (or other mixed categories), run in the same event?
Depending on the number of entries received it is sometimes necessary to combine classes so we have reasonable sized fields and present a good show. We cannot run an event with 5 machines only.

Q. Why is the date of a particular meeting always different?
Date selection is difficult, the racing calendars are getting fuller each yea and since the Moto GP and World Super bikes have an effect on our gate attendances, the Marshals, ambulances and other services, we have to shuffle our dates as they move around. The Australian Historic Championships moves around states and tracks which cause additional headaches all of which impacts us.

Q. How do I start Historic Racing?
Talk to us! Other club members will be happy to assist. But First of all, Down load an application for membership from the web site or call the Secretary, send it back fully completed. Detailing your requirements, get a club stamped license application form, send it to MV with 2 passport style photos,. MV will send you a written test which you must complete and return. Your are strongly advised to attend a few track days prior to entering a race event. and if you wish attend a couple of track days.

Q. Can I enter a race meeting on-the-day?
In short NO. But in special circumstances yes. To enter on-the-day it depends on the type of meeting and if you have specific work or medical reasons. The possibility of being rejected on the day is there, and you will not be listed in the program. Also worth noting, your entry can only be processed after everyone who has entered is sorted, which means you could miss the first event. Hill climbs are usually enter on the day events.

Q. Why have I missed out on a Pit Shed or I’m not in my usual location?
There are a limited number of pit sheds. Our Pit Shed allocation is First-inn, First Allocated. We do our best to keep regulars happy, but sometimes it doesn’t work well for everyone. Sorry!

Q. How can I assist?
Talk to us! Assistance is always required and only through volunteering, is it possible for us to race. This being the case racers
must look at how much effort they input and decide when they’re up for helping. Some guys even park their machine for a year to help,
others assist in “bump-in” / “pull-out” & race in between. We can find a small task for anyone! Just put your hand up!

What task could I do or which positions are available?
Simply talk to us. Of course all the regulars are changing and shifting about. For example, if you have only half an hour a week
you could;
• Mail assistance (mail licenses and memberships)
• Supervise internet merchandising. (Retrieve orders and post)
• Write race reports.
• Secretarial work. (specifically race secretary)
• Catering, Marquee and communications ordering.
• Help load and set up event.
• Stay back and hour and pack-up event.
• Join an MV sub-committee to represent our clubs interests.
• Help with promotions.
Or if you have a specialty skill which may help us, and you wish to share your knowledge, please let us know.

Q. If I nominate myself for a task, am I locked in?
No, but if you are having trouble meeting the commitment, you will have the support of many others. Times and circumstances always change
and our committee changes seasonally.

Q. I’m building a bike, which front brakes can I use?
That’s an eligibility question and as there are so many categories represented, it is essential to gain the knowledge of others. MV and the MA rule books are the first step, but of course there are many others within the club who have experienced some issues themselves and would be happy to impart with their knowledge. A call to the club will see you in the right direction on this topic. It is essential to contact Motorcycling Australia direct with your ideas well before you finish the project pit gossip and incorrect advise given may cause you trouble

Q. I posted in my renewal for membership and I have to get my license processed for the next meeting.
As we are a bunch of volunteers, it’s difficult to drop everything for one application. Usually they are dealt with in lots of 10 over a couple of weeks. So please allow a 4-6 week turn-around for your license renewal form and don’t leave it to the last moment. Xmas / new year is a bad time to get help, and with the Island Classic also during that
periods difficulties are encountered, plan ahead and don’t abuse volunteers for your lack of planning

Q. How many times can I race a year?
There are 5 weekend long competition events each year and another 3 recreational / enjoyment hill climbs and picnic styled events. And with the National MA race licence you can compete at any meeting elsewhere in Australia.

Q. What type of license do I get?
There is a variety of licenses available ranging from junior recreational to senior national licenses. The choice is yours and all the details and links to preview these are in the
links section of this web-site. HMRAV events required a Full National Licence or a National one race licence if applicable which MUST be applied for at least 4 weeks prior to an event directly from Motorcycling Victoria.

Q. Where can I buy a bike / sidecar?
Depending on the type of category you wish to race, you will need to give us a call. Bikes & sidecars are sometimes available through
regular classifieds (print & web), but it would be worth asking around the club. They are sometimes available and an introduction
could be made and worth while.

Q. Why join the HMRAV?
Our club caters specifically for historic interests and lobbies
controlling bodies for your interest. Our events cater only for our needs and interests. Historic Motorcycle Racing!!!

Q. How are race numbers allocated?
By Act of God…not quite, but close to it. As many people have been racing a long time and hold the same number over the years, its it may be difficult to get any number, particularly if you are new to Historic Racing. MV has delegated somebody to manage a list, which is not a registration list, but most clubs recognise it. You will be advise who to call when your license is issued or renewed. difficult to get your desired number. Our secretary holds a list of numbers and can allocate new numbers. A call to us is necessary on this one.

Q. Does my machine require a “log book?”
Yes. Machines entered into competition need to have a Log book. The applications and requirements are available from Motorcycling Australia who are listed on the
links page.
