Although entry numbers were down, the meeting was successful with light rain on Saturday
and perfect sunny weather on Sunday, which saw lap times come down from Saturday. HMRAV had the great pleasure
of having Kevin Magee as patron of the meeting, and with late night sessions and a few drinks, the stories of
his racing career were very interesting – a true champion in all sense! Kevin’s support and assistance over
the weekend, as well as doing the honour of trophy presentations, is very much appreciated.
The Southern Classic seems to be attracting a lot of interest from our northern and western like-minded
competitors with increased entries from Queensland and Western Australia. It was pleasing to see them travel such
a great distance to ride at our meeting (and appreciated!), and hope to see them return to be made more than welcome.
Former sidecar champion Ray Kelly and his wife Dot made a special trip to the meeting to present the inaugural
RAY KELLY CLASSIC SIDECAR HANDICAP TROPHY, kindly donated by new HMRAV member and sponsor Ron Maroney, to sidecar
team Bill Stoyle and Brett Gilbert.
Grateful thanks to both Ray and Ron.
The weekend saw 3 lap records broken – congratulations are well deserved!

- Unlimited Classic Sidecar – 1:17.904 by Bill Stoyle & Brett Gilbert on a 1958 Triumph 750
The BSA RIDER OF THE MEETING trophy was presented by David Gittus to popular HMRAV member, Keith Campbell.
